About the Program
The Instructional Design and Development (IDD) track of the Instructional Technology Program provides the knowledge and skills to craft effective solutions to instructional and performance challenges including the design and development of technology-based solution systems and learning environments using the latest educational technologies and design processes. If you are interested in combining state-of-the-art technologies with training, teaching and learning, we hope you will come join us for a unique experience to expand your profession skills. Master's Degree - Part-time Program
The Instructional Design and Development M.Ed. Part-time Program offers a flexible course of study with classes scheduled in the evening for working professionals. The program consists of a total of 30 credit hours. Students typically complete their degree through part time study in approximately 1 1/2-3 years. Learn More...
Master's Degree - Full-time Program
The Instructional Design and Development M.Ed. Full-time Program, known as the Immersion Program is typically completed in three semesters. Students complete 6 credits of prerequisite coursework in the spring or summer. The program begins in the fall and is completed in the spring. Students participate in a two-semester full-time project development practicum involving realistic projects with client-sponsors selected from the corporate, academic or military arenas. Add the e-Learning Graduate Certificate as a Secondary Program
Thirteen of the 30 credits required for the IT master’s program can be applied towards the e-Learning Graduate Certificate if it is added prior to graduating by filling out the Declaration of Secondary Program form.

Students may transfer up to one credit less than half of their required credits from another accredited university, subject to advisor approval. The IDD masters program requires the completion of 30 credits therefore students may transfer up to 14 credits as long as these credits were not completed in fulfillment of another degree. Transfer credits may include up to 12 credits of extended studies taken at GMU. To officially transfer credits, contact your advisor. You will need to obtain a Transfer of Credit form. Your advisor in the IT program should approve and sign this form as well as the Dean. This process will ensure that the credits are reported on your transcript and are officially part of your program of study.
