Program Description
The e-Learning Graduate Certificate provides specialized knowledge in instructional design and e-learning practices that utilize current and emerging technologies to meet education and training goals in schools, communities, government agencies, and corporate settings. Examples of the learning technologies that you will encounter in the program include but are not limited to various Web 2.0 technologies and social software such as:
- Personal authoring technologies, such as blogs, wikis, podcasting, RSS feeds and friend-of-a-friend (FOAF) profiles
- Social networking utilities like Facebook, MySpace and YouTube
- Virtual worlds like Second Life and Entropia Universe
- Design and Development like Dreamweaver, JavaScript, Photoshop, Flash, and Captivate
- Game Design and Robotics in Education
Required courses for the e-Learning Graduate Certificate are available online to meet the needs of students who find it difficult to attend our face-to-face courses.

Admissions Requirements
- Completed Application for Graduate Study and the non-refundable application fee. The online application can be found at admissions.gmu.edu.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited instituition with a 3.0 GPA in the last 60 credits-of-study. Some applicants with a lower GPA may be admitted provisionally if there is sufficient evidence of potential success.
- Two official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Unofficial George Mason University transcripts are acceptable.
- Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) are not required.

What are the course requirements?

- EDIT 530: Scripting and Programming (1 hr-3 hrs)
- EDIT 571: Tools for Visual Design (1 hr-3 hrs)
- EDIT 572: Tools for Digital Video/Audio (1 hr-3 hrs)
- EDIT 573: Project Management Tools (1 hr-3 hrs)
- EDIT 574: Networking Tools (1 hr-3 hrs)
- EDIT 575: Authoring Tools (1 hr-3 hrs)
- EDIT 771: Overview of Multimedia/Hypermedia (2 hrs)
- EDIT 772: Web-based Instructional Tools (1 hr-3 hrs)
Your advisor will assist you in determining a course sequence and delivery mode that best fits your needs. In general, if you are a beginner, it is recommended that you take EDIT 526: Web Accessibility and Design and EDIT 705: Instructional Design.
Can Graduate Certificate credits be applied to the Master's Program?
Students who graduate from the e-Learning Graduate Certificate Program may apply 12 credits completed under the certificate program to the 30-credit IT master’s program. The remaining 18 credits required must be completed while enrolled in the IT master’s program.
